Chasity Salvador

Miss Pueblo of Acoma 2016-17

Platform: Increasing Youth Voices in Acoma Social Issues

My name is Chasity Salvador. My grandparents are Carmen Lewis and Larry Sanchez and Lilly Salvador and Wayne Salvador. I have three siblings that I love to the fullest: Casey, Colton, and Ciandra Salvador. They individually inspire me to do the work I do with their everlasting motivation, resilience, and unconditional love. My parents are Janelle Salvador and Wayne J. Salvador, Jr. and I credit them all my success as they have taught me how to be planted in humility and self-love.

I am a rising senior at Stanford University where I am pursuing a double major in Sociology and Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity with a focus on Native American experiences. I am also an intern at Chestnut Law Offices located in Albuquerque. I am a former intern of the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaskan Native Education, and Acoma's tribal government. I have traveled to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the Six Nations tribe of Canada and Cape Town, South Africa with the intentions to understand the indigenous experience in these areas outside of the United States to better know how I can come back to the United States and initiate change within policy in regards to tribes in order to bring awareness and ultimately justice among native populations.

My academic interests are to learn how to marry the western concepts that I learn at Stanford with the traditional concepts I learn at home and from my family in order to revamp a meaningful education system for the generations that come after me. I am also passionate about uplifting the voices of our youth and empowering our young Acoma girls and women to understand the power of self-love and care as it related to sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

I enjoy running, dancing, reading, and writing poetry and blogs and spending time with my family.
